Filey's
New Sports Field Project
The club has commenced construction on a new £1million training and changing room complex on land near Scarborough Road in Filey. After almost ten years of hard work within the club, this project financed partially by the club itself, The Football Foundation, Filey Town Council, North Yorkshire County Council and Scarborough Borough Council is on the way to becoming a reality. The complex will provide the club and the local community with 3 new full size football pitches and 3 small sided pitches. A set aside area is available for future use as an all weather facility, subject to funding being acquired. The building will incorporate 4 new changing rooms with showering facilities, 2 referees changing rooms, public and disabled toilets, a storeroom and a meeting and activities room, including kitchenette and a serving hatch to the field. A car parking area and access road completes the project.
At the proposed site for Filey Boys & Girls Sports Club's new playing field complex, a broken gate swings free into the empty grazing field, the club hope to transform into a modern purpose built facility, which will serve the town. Shown below is the architects impression of the proposed changing room facility, which will serve and compliment the six football pitches.
The club’s partially completed new headquarters, pictured in June 2008.
The field project received welcome boost in the form of a £10,000 grant award from North Yorkshire County Council, to assist the development of the new facility. This welcome award means that we can now speed up the process of furthering the project, which has been subject to time delays in the past, because of financial shortfalls.
The grant comes just as the field project has almost exhausted a previousgrant of £5000 which was kindly funded by Filey Town Council, who are backing the field project.
